Senate lawmakers voted Thursday to advance the nomination of Matthew Marzano, President Joe Biden’s latest pick for the nation’s nuclear energy regulator.
The cloture vote, which passed 50-46, sets up a full confirmation vote for Marzano to join the Nuclear Regulatory Commission as soon as Thursday afternoon.
Marzano would fill the fifth and final spot on the panel and potentially secure a Democratic majority for as long as the next three years.
“I’m very much encouraged,” said Environment and Public Works Chair Tom Carper (D-Del.). “We need to make sure we have a full compliment of commissioners serving on the NRC.”
