The Senate on Wednesday approved legislation to boost U.S. mining education and extend Lake Tahoe conservation efforts.
Lawmakers approved S.612, the “Lake Tahoe Restoration Reauthorization Act,” from Sen. Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.), by unanimous consent. It would extend restoration efforts through 2034.
The chamber also a bipartisan measure, S. 912, from Energy and Natural Resources ranking Republican John Barrasso of Wyoming. It would require the Energy secretary to provide technology grants to for domestic mining education.
Co-sponsors include Cortez Masto and Energy and Natural Resources Chair Joe Manchin (I-W.Va.). The panel approved the bill last year.
