It’s a busy day on Capitol Hill for action on Congressional Review Act resolutions against Biden administration rules.
The Senate on Wednesday approved 52-46 H.J. Res. 42, from Rep. Andrew Clyde (R-Ga.), to repeal a Department of Energy rule affecting appliance efficiency labeling and certification requirements. The House already cleared the measure in March, and President Donald Trump is poised to sign it.
The CRA allows lawmakers to undo agency rules and other actions by simple majority as long as they act within a certain time frame. The administration is then forbidden from reissuing the same rule or one similar.
Democrats have described the DOE labeling and certification rule as routine. Republicans have called it overly burdensome. Clyde’s resolution got some bipartisan support in the House but passed along party lines in the Senate.
