The Senate Environment and Public Works Committee plans to vote Wednesday on Douglas Weaver to remain on the Nuclear Regulatory Commission.

Lawmakers confirmed Weaver to the regulatory panel last year with broad bipartisan support as he promised to uphold its independence. But his term is scheduled to expire in June.

President Donald Trump nominated Weaver last year to replace former Commissioner Annie Caputo, who resigned. The president nominated him to stay on the job in January.
