Senate committee pushes ahead with vote on NRC nominee

Confirming Matthew Marzano would give Democrats a lasting majority on the Nuclear Regulatory Commission.

The Senate Environmental and Public Works Committee will vote this week on one of President Joe Biden’s last energy nominees still pending.

Nuclear Regulatory Commission pick Matthew Marzano would fill the fifth and final spot on the panel, and would give Democrats a majority for as long as the next three years.

Marzano has served for two years as a committee staffer under Chair Tom Carper (D-Del.) and is currently on detail to the Department of Energy’s Idaho National Laboratory.

He enjoyed a relatively smooth confirmation hearing in September during which he appealed to members of both parties by emphasizing his work on developing a recent bipartisan nuclear energy law.
