Lawmakers will question Army Corps of Engineers leaders this week to help hash out the details of a forthcoming water infrastructure package.
Michael Connor, assistant secretary of the Army for civil works, and Lt. Gen. Scott Spellmon, Army Corps chief of engineers and commanding general, are scheduled to appear before the Environment and Public Works Committee.
The committee is working to craft the latest Water Resources Development Act, a biennial bill that directs corps’ efforts on flooding, navigation and restoring wetlands and coastal ecosystems.

Lawmakers from both parties have submitted proposals for consideration, including directives for the corps to fix aging dams, slow down coastal erosion and study flood threats.
