The Senate voted along party lines Monday to confirm Whitney Hermandorfer to serve on the 6th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals.
The 46-42 confirmation vote for President Donald Trump’s first judicial pick of his second term came following objections from Democrats on the Senate Judiciary Committee, who had questioned whether Hermandorfer had the requisite courtroom experience for the lifetime post on the federal bench.
Republicans lauded Hermandorfer, a Tennessee native, for her work serving as the director of the strategic litigation unit at the Tennessee attorney general’s office, as well as for having the unusual distinction of clerking for three sitting Supreme Court justices.
Hermandorfer is a “stellar” nominee, said Tennessee Republican Sen. Marsha Blackburn in remarks ahead of Monday’s vote.
