The Senate on Thursday confirmed President Joe Biden’s latest nominee to join the nation’s nuclear energy oversight panel largely along party lines.
Matthew Marzano, formerly a staffer for Senate Environment and Public Works Chair Tom Carper (D-Del.), will take the fifth and final spot on the Nuclear Regulatory Commission after the 50-45 vote.
All Republicans present voted against Marzano. Arizona independent Sen. Kyrsten Sinema also opposed the president’s pick.
Carper, during a floor speech before the roll call, praised Marzano’s experience and his role in developing the ADVANCE Act, this year’s law to ease approvals for nuclear reactors.
