The Senate on Monday approved President Joe Biden’s pick to head the Department of Agriculture’s rural development programs.
The nominee, Basil Ivanhoe Gooden, was confirmed by voice vote.
The rural development office oversees a wide range of programs that includes expansion and modernization of water, sewer and electric service in rural areas as well as improvement of high-speed internet where it’s lacking.
Gooden’s nomination won unanimous approval in December in the Agriculture Committee.
