A group of Senate Democrats launched an investigation Friday into the role of 15 major banks in the Trump administration’s planned sale of Venezuelan oil.
Five senators asked the banks to disclose any communication they’ve had with the administration about the military actions in Venezuela earlier this month or plans to sell oil seized from the country.
“Given that rapidly evolving situation and the Administration’s failure to provide clarity on its plans for Venezuela’s oil and the funds raised from oil sales, we write to you to seek answers,” the senators wrote.
The letters — sent to 15 financial institutions including Bank of America, Citi and JP Morgan — came from Banking Committee ranking member Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.), Finance ranking member Ron Wyden (D-Ore.), Environment and Public Works ranking member Sheldon Whitehouse (D-R.I.), and Sens. Peter Welch (D-Vt.) and Brian Schatz (D-Hawaii).
