A group of nuclear-hesitant Senate Democrats could be all that stands in the way of a major bipartisan nuclear energy bill.

The fate of a major bipartisan nuclear energy bill could be in the hands of a few Senate Democrats, as leaders there are pushing to pass the legislation as soon as Thursday.

Senate Environment and Public Works Chair Tom Carper (D-Del.) and ranking member Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.) have pinged their colleagues in a Senate procedure known as a “hotline” to see if there any objections to passing via unanimous consent the “Accelerating Deployment of Versatile, Advanced Nuclear for Clean Energy (ADVANCE) Act.”

If any senator objects, however, the bill would have to wait until after the Memorial Day recess.

“We’ve got the hotline on to see where everybody is at,” Capito said Wednesday. “It’s looking decent, but we don’t have a final resolution on that.”
