Senate Democrats unveiled a new approach to tackling confusing recycled content labels on plastic goods and packaging.
Sen. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) on Thursday introduced the Tracking Plastic Act, which would task a federal, interagency working group with developing recommendations for proving the amount of recycled content in products like water bottles.
“Implementing a reliable process of tracking recycled materials will provide Americans with accurate information on plastics used in the products they’re buying,” Schiff said in a statement. “Our legislation will crack down on companies that mislead the public on their reporting of recycled plastic content.”
Oregon Sens. Jeff Merkley and Ron Wyden and New Jersey Sen. Cory Booker are co-sponsoring the bill.
