Eight Senate Democrats are pressing EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin for a crackdown on microplastics, arguing the Trump administration’s approach overlooks its regulatory powers.

In a letter sent Thursday, the lawmakers told Zeldin “to use [EPA’s] existing authorities to address the full lifecycle of plastic pollution.”

Last month, Zeldin announced the agency’s plans to add microplastics to its list of unregulated drinking water contaminants. It’s one of the first steps toward regulations, but critics said the plan lacked substance.
