Senate environment committee announces panel leaders

Freshman Republican Sen. John Curtis of Utah has secured a key subcommittee leadership role in the Environment and Public Works Committee.

Curtis will chair the Chemical Safety, Waste Management, Environmental Justice and Regulatory Oversight Subcommittee, leaders announced Tuesday.

Curtis, a former House member, founded the House Conservative Climate Caucus and was a leading Republican figure on environmental and clean energy matters.

He championed legislation in 2023 for broad changes to the Toxic Substances Control Act. The push for new TSCA changes has picked up considerable momentum now that the GOP has control of the executive and legislative branches.
