Senate eyes progress on nuclear, Interior nominees

Senators are hoping to confirm two critical energy and environment picks in the coming weeks.

Senators are hoping to make progress on two nominees this month, though they’ll have little time to spare.

This week, the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee will question President Joe Biden’s pick to fill the fifth and final spot on the Nuclear Regulatory Commission.

At the same time, deputy Interior secretary nominee Shannon Estenoz could get a vote in the full Senate. She got bipartisan support in committee in July.

The NRC nominee, Matthew Marzano, has served for two years as an Environment and Public Works staff member under Chair Tom Carper (D-Del.) and is currently on detail at the Department of Energy’s Idaho National Laboratory.
