The Senate will take up the nomination of Wells Griffith for a senior position at the Department of Energy when the chamber returns from recess next week.
President Donald Trump tapped Griffith to serve as undersecretary for energy. Griffith worked at DOE and the White House during the first Trump administration.
Even though Trump said Griffith would be part of the administration’s “DRILL, BABY, DRILL” agenda, the nominee has received some bipartisan support.
Senate Energy and Natural Resources ranking member Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.), and Sens. John Hickenlooper (D-Colo.) and Angus King (I-Maine) voted for Griffith in April.
