The Senate Commerce, Science and Transportation Committee postponed consideration of a bill that would have reauthorized the nation’s pipeline safety regulator.

The committee was meant to vote Wednesday morning on the pipeline bill, as well as nominations and other resources proposals. Staff said they delayed the markup because Chair Ted Cruz (R-Texas) was attending to a family matter.

S. 2975, the “PIPELINE Safety Act of 2025,” would reauthorize the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration’s safety programs for the first time since 2020.

The bill is led by Cruz and committee ranking member Maria Cantwell (D-Wash.), as well as Sens. Todd Young (R-Ind.) and Gary Peters (D-Mich.).
