Alaska Republican Sen. Dan Sullivan challenged President Joe Biden’s latest nuclear nominee during a Wednesday confirmation hearing.

Sullivan brought up an article from Ted Nordhaus, executive director at the pro-nuclear think tank Breakthrough Institute, alleging that Nuclear Regulatory Commission nominee Matthew Marzano would be the least qualified commissioner ever seated at the agency.

“There’s been some concern that … your experience is not up to par for where commissioners are,” Sullivan said during the Environment and Public Works Committee hearing. “As a matter of fact, the Breakthrough Institute stated that you may be the least experienced commissioner ever seated at the NRC.”

Marzano has served for two years as an aide to Chair Tom Carper (D-Del.) and is currently on detail to the Department of Energy’s Idaho National Laboratory.
