Four Republican senators introduced resolutions Thursday targeting federal waivers that have allowed California to impose stricter pollution standards for vehicles.
The senators join a litany of lawmakers who have jumped at the chance to carry out a Trump administration request for Congress to target federal Clean Air Act waivers for California mandates.
Congress last year eliminated three California waivers granted under former President Joe Biden that Republicans saw as endorsing an electric car mandate. The Trump administration in June asked federal lawmakers to kill four more waivers, some of which date back to the Obama administration.
Sens. Cynthia Lummis (R-Wyo.), Eric Schmitt (R-Mo.), Pete Ricketts (R-Neb.) and Jon Husted (R-Ohio) introduced four Congressional Review Act resolutions Thursday that would ax those waivers.
