Senate sets action on more energy, environment nominees

Bureau of Land Management director nominee Steve Pearce is on a list of dozens of nominees Senate Republicans want to confirm in the coming days.

The chamber’s GOP leaders are advancing a package of nominees under rules approved last year to accelerate the confirmation of administration picks. An initial procedural vote is scheduled for Tuesday.

Pearce has been waiting for months to be confirmed. The Energy and Natural Resources Committee advanced the former New Mexico Republican congressman along party lines in March.

Although Pearce has been a proponent of large-scale land sales and monument rollbacks, he vowed during his confirmation hearing not to pursue those goals if he is allowed to oversee 245 million acres of the nation’s land and 700 million acres of subsurface minerals. His reversal still failed to win over any Democrats.
