Two new Democrats have joined the Senate: Adam Schiff of California and Andy Kim of New Jersey were formally sworn into the body.

Vice President Kamala Harris administered the oath of office. Also spotted in the chamber: former Speaker Nancy Pelosi.

Both Schiff and Kim won full terms in the November elections, but they came to the Senate earlier in different ways. New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy (D) appointed Kim to take the place of newly resigned former Sen. George Helmy (D) on Sunday.

Schiff won a special election on the same day as the general election to complete the rest of the term of the late Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.).
