The Senate Environment and Public Works Committee will vote this week on Matthew Marzano to serve on the Nuclear Regulatory Commission.
The panel held a relatively uneventful confirmation hearing for Marzano, an aide to Chair Tom Carper (D-Del.), earlier this month. This week will show how much support he has for the NRC position, which would give Democrats a majority on the nuclear panel.
During the hearing, Alaska Republican Sen. Dan Sullivan questioned the nominee about his qualifications. Marzano helped write the ADVANCE Act, nuclear energy legislation that became law this year.
Separately, the Senate Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs Committee has been working on scheduling a markup on nominees to the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp., the Treasury Department and the Securities and Exchange Commission.
