President Donald Trump’s pick to oversee the Pentagon’s environmental initiatives fielded questions from senators Tuesday on his plans to clean up “forever chemicals” at military installations.
Dale Marks, nominated to be assistant secretary of Defense for energy, installations and environment, said that “transparency is key” when it comes to cleanup of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) that contaminate areas surrounding military sites.
“You have my commitment. If confirmed, we’ll work hard on transparency,” Marks told the Senate Armed Services Committee.
His response came after questioning from Sen. Gary Peters (D-Mich.) about Marks’ plans to address PFAS, which Peters called a “top priority.”
