The Senate Commerce, Science and Transportation Committee has scheduled a vote on Michael Kratsios to lead the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy.
It’s a Cabinet post with influence over technology and research affecting energy and environment issues, including the administration’s posture on climate science.
During his confirmation hearing, Kratsios defended the administration’s move to cut staff at the National Science Foundation and other science-heavy agencies.
“I think it’s very important when you enter into a new administration to have the opportunity to assess the team that you have on the field and determine what is the best way to be able to drive the priorities of American people and the president,” he told lawmakers last month.
