The Sierra Club, one of the largest environmental groups in the country, has endorsed Roy Cooper, a Democrat, for North Carolina’s Senate seat.

The former North Carolina governor announced his candidacy in July after Republican Sen. Thom Tillis chose not to seek reelection following a fallout with President Donald Trump for not voting to advance his “big, beautiful bill.”

“Governor Cooper proved that clean air, clean water, and a strong economy go hand-in-hand,” said Drew Ball, chair of the North Carolina Sierra Club Political Committee. “He moved North Carolina forward by settling bold clean energy goals, tripling North Carolina’s solar energy capacity, attracting billions in clean-energy investment, and creating thousands of jobs.”
