Kevin Harris, who was promoted last month to be Sierra Club’s chief strategy officer, has resigned from the environmental organization in the wake of reporting about his lobbying activities.

Harris “has decided to step away from his work supporting and advising the Sierra Club,” the green group’s Chief Operating Officer Michael Parrish told staff Friday in an email obtained by POLITICO’s E&E News.

Harris was not asked to leave the organization, but Harris told the group he did not want to “be a distraction,” Parrish wrote. The announcement came after the newsletter The Lever reported Thursday that Harris was registered as a cryptocurrency lobbyist during his employment at Sierra Club.
