California Senate Majority Leader Lena Gonzalez is one of the state’s top crusaders against the oil industry — and she’s itching to pick up where she left off.

She’s already been at the center of the biggest drilling battle in the state — now, she’s hoping the third time could be the charm for her bill to block the state’s public pension systems from investing in fossil fuel companies.

POLITICO sat down with her at the environmental group EnviroVoters’ awards ceremony in Los Angeles last month to talk divestment and what she expects for other fossil fuel bills moving through the Legislature.
