A solar energy developer fell short Tuesday in the Democratic primary for Nebraska’s 1st District.

Eric Moyer lost in the race for the Lincoln-area district to Chris Backemeyer, a former State Department diplomat. Backemeyer will face incumbent Rep. Mike Flood (R), who had no primary challenger, in the November general election.

“While the outcome isn’t what I’d hoped, I take tremendous pride in the work we did and all that was accomplished with the resources available,” Moyer wrote on social media following the loss.

Moyer spent most of the last decade working in solar energy development, after previously working in real estate development. He focused his bid on cost-of-living issues, which he connected to the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, Republicans’ tax bill that rolled back renewable energy tax incentives.
