Virginia Democratic gubernatorial hopeful Abigail Spanberger is focusing on technologies like solar energy and battery storage in her new energy platform.
Spanberger, a former House member hoping to flip control of the governor’s mansion and succeed Gov. Glenn Youngkin (R), is also putting an emphasis on the growing data center sector in Virginia, with a goal of making sure the facilities and their energy demand do not lead to increased electricity prices.
“My agenda is focused on expanding generation, ensuring that we are strengthening our grid, planning for a future where Virginia’s energy generation is not just about utilizing renewable energy and technologies of the future, but also about lowering costs and bringing more jobs to Virginia,” she said in a video announcing her plan Monday in Norfolk, where she visited a resident who had recently completed weatherization upgrades to her home.
“As the next Governor of Virginia, I will be focused on lowering costs and making Virginians’ bills more affordable — because I know that affordable energy is essential to driving economic growth,” Spanberger said in a statement.
