A coalition of 13 blue states is bringing the Trump administration to court for nixing congressionally-mandated funding for energy and infrastructure programs.

The administration violated the federal separation of powers and procedural law by blocking approximately $2.7 billion in clean energy funding under the Inflation Reduction Act and the bipartisan infrastructure law, California’s Attorney General Rob Bonta said in a virtual press conference Wednesday.

“These are investments approved by bipartisan majorities in Congress, and the president doesn’t get to cancel them simply because he disagrees with them,” Bonta said. He noted the legal challenge was the state’s 58th lawsuit against the Trump administration.

The states are asking the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California to permanently prevent the Department of Energy and the Office of Management and Budget from blocking the funding.
