Survey finds feds’ ‘morale is as low as imaginable’

The results follow what was a tumultuous year for government workers under the Trump administration.

The Partnership for Public Service has found the civil service’s esprit de corps was dismal last year as the Trump administration tore into government.

The good government research group released on Thursday its long-anticipated Public Service Viewpoint Survey. The federal employee poll was an attempt to fill a data gap after the Office of Personnel Management canceled its own governmentwide annual survey for 2025.

Max Stier, president and CEO of the partnership, told reporters he was troubled by the “deeply distressing story” his organization uncovered.

“We have every red light blinking across the entire federal government. Morale is as low as imaginable,” Stier said. “There is no corner that has emerged unscathed.”
