Brian Nesvik impressed lawmakers in a confirmation hearing Wednesday for the top job at the Fish and Wildlife Service by highlighting his practical outdoor experience and military record.

He was one of three Trump administration nominees before the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee and never faltered in his answers. His confirmation now seems to be a foregone conclusion, with some Democrats likely to be among his supporters.

While Nesvik’s testimony was short on fireworks, it was nonetheless illuminating. Here are four takeaways.

The Cheyenne, Wyoming, native is a professional wildlife manager, not a lawyer, and his on-the-ground experience combined with his hands-on competence proved very attractive to lawmakers.
