Some of the biggest names in tech and energy are showing interest in a new Capitol Hill working group tasked with developing legislation that could help tackle a projected boom in energy demand from artificial intelligence.
Republican Rep. Julie Fedorchak of North Dakota — with deep energy policy experience as former head of the state’s Public Service Commission — is leading the group dedicated to coming up with a “legislative framework” on the subject.
“My goal is to bring in experts and stakeholders, legislators, and other interested parties to craft a legislative framework that secures our energy dominance, strengthens our electric grid, and positions America as the global leader in AI,” Fedorchak said in a statement Monday. “To be AI dominant, we must first be energy dominant.”
The working group, announced in February, is already shaping up to be a first-of-its-kind dialogue between the major players of Big Tech and the energy space. Kate Roberts, a spokesperson for Fedorchak, said on Monday that more than 50 top companies have expressed interest in joining the effort.
