Texas is investigating claims that apparel from popular activewear retailer Lululemon contains “forever chemicals.”

State Attorney General Ken Paxton, a Republican, announced Monday that his office had issued a subpoena to the company as part of an investigation of whether Lululemon has misled its health-conscious customers about the safety and quality of its products.

PFAS, a set of chemicals that are slow to break down and are used to create products such as nonstick cookwear and waterproof fabrics, have been linked to cancer, infertility and other health problems.

“Americans should not have to worry if they are being deceived when trying to make healthy choices for themselves and their families,” said Paxton in a statement. “I will not allow any corporation to sell harmful, toxic materials to consumers at a premium price under the guise of wellness and sustainability. If Lululemon has violated Texas law, it will be held accountable.”
