Texas lawmakers will start working on their response to the state’s deadly flooding when they meet later this month in a special session.
Gov. Greg Abbott (R) this week ordered the Legislature to consider a series of topics related to the storm, starting with improving and strengthening early warning systems and emergency communications.
He also directed the Legislature to consider relief funding for areas affected by the floods, including providing matching funds for grants from the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
“There is more work to be done, particularly in the aftermath of the devastating floods in the Texas Hill Country,” Abbott said in a proclamation announcing the session. “We must ensure better preparation for such events in the future.”
