Abigail Ross Hopper is leaving the solar energy industry’s main lobbying group after nine years at the organization’s helm.

Hopper announced to Solar Energy Industries Association member companies Tuesday that she would leave at the end of January, after a “challenging” year in which Congress voted to end the industry’s tax incentives and the Trump administration moved to block multiple major solar projects.

“Leading SEIA and serving this community has been one of the great honors of my professional life. But I feel that now is the time for my next chapter,” Hopper wrote in an open letter.

She noted the massive growth in solar in her time at SEIA, from 36 gigawatts when she started in 2017 to 255 GW today. Domestic solar manufacturing has also grown significantly under her leadership, from 14th to third in the world.
