A conservative think tank is asking the Trump administration to roll back three major water quality rules that it says are stifling energy projects.

Filed by the Institute for Energy Research, the first petition seeks changes to the Biden administration’s definition of “waters of the U.S.” under the Clean Water Act. The definition sets the standard for the types of wetlands and surface waters nationwide that are protected by the landmark environmental law.

The second petition asks EPA to rein in states’ ability to block energy projects like pipelines that could harm water quality within their borders.

The third asks for reconsideration of a sweeping EPA rule requiring states to account for tribes’ fishing and hunting rights when setting water pollution standards.
