Republican Rep. Scott Perry said he’s happy the shuttered Three Mile Island nuclear plant in his district could reopen, even if he’s not keen on federal dollars bankrolling the restart.
The remarks came Tuesday during a debate in the race to represent Pennsylvania’s 10th District, a once-conservative stronghold that Democrats are hoping to flip.
Perry welcomed the additional “baseload power” but scoffed at the idea Microsoft — which made a deal with Constellation Energy to revive part of the plant — needs government help.
“For goodness sake, I don’t think Microsoft needs money from the federal government,” said Perry, former chair of the House Freedom Caucus. “They seem to be one of the wealthiest [companies] on the planet, and they should be able to do that themselves.”
