President Donald Trump’s fiscal 2026 budget plan released Friday would repeal over $15 billion from the Department of Energy’s bipartisan infrastructure law programs, as well as cut funding to agency offices that boost energy sources supported by both the president and congressional Republicans.
The Department of Energy would get $45.1 billion total under the request. That’s about $4.7 billion less than current levels passed by Congress in March, according to a White House fact sheet. All of those cuts would come from the non-defense portion of DOE’s portfolio, which is requested to be funded at $21.1 billion.
In a press release touting the 2026 budget plan, the White House celebrated the proposed axing of billions from the infrastructure law.
“The Budget cancels over $15 billion in Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) Green New Scam funds provided to the Department of Energy for unreliable renewable energy, removing carbon dioxide from the air, and other costly technologies that burden ratepayers and consumers,” the release read.
