President Donald Trump is sending his environment and energy Cabinet secretaries to Japan next month in a push to secure greater U.S. involvement in energy deals in the Indo-Pacific region.

The National Energy Dominance Council, championed by the Trump administration last year, will kick off the first Indo-Pacific Energy Security Ministerial and Business Forum in partnership with Japan.

Council Chair and Interior Secretary Doug Burgum, Vice Chair and Energy Secretary Chris Wright and EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin will convene with nearly a dozen countries in Tokyo to forge new alliances and nail down existing deals, according to an EPA news release.

U.S. energy, infrastructure, industry and financial business executives will also participate in talks, framing an agenda to increase U.S. exports and counter the “coercive influences” of China and Russia, Burgum wrote in the release.
