The Senate is slated this week to confirm President Donald Trump’s nominees to lead the Department of Energy and the White House budget office, while other Cabinet picks are set to advance.
The expected Monday vote on Energy secretary nominee Chris Wright would wrap up confirmations for Trump’s main energy and environment officials. The Senate confirmed EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin and Interior Secretary Doug Burgum last week.
Wright, the founder and CEO of oil company Liberty Energy, is expected to be confirmed with at least some Democratic votes. He advanced out of the Energy and Natural Resources Committee last month with support of four of the panel’s nine Democrats, along with all 11 Republicans.
The Senate invoked cloture, a procedural step, on Wright’s confirmation Thursday, with nine Democrats joining all 53 Republicans in favor.
