The president’s decision follows a scathing op-ed from Tennessee senators arguing the utility board is ill-suited to pursue the “nuclear renaissance.”

President Donald Trump fired a member of the federally owned Tennessee Valley Authority board, a Biden nominee, according to a Securities and Exchange Commission memo posted Friday.

Trump’s decision to fire Michelle Moore, a solar and energy efficiency executive for a nonprofit group, is the latest in the president’s efforts to impose his political preferences over federal agencies. It also follows a scathing op-ed from GOP lawmakers arguing the utility board is ill-suited to pursue the “nuclear renaissance.”

TVA board members are appointed by the president and confirmed by the Senate to serve a term of five years. Moore was confirmed by the Senate in 2022 and her term would have expired in May 2026.

During his first term, Trump removed two TVA board members whom he accused of outsourcing U.S. jobs to foreign workers. The White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the president’s reasoning for firing Moore.
