The Trump administration is terminating the leases on some Army Corps of Engineers buildings, affecting regional operations in Chicago and Charleston, South Carolina.
Representatives of those district offices said the General Services Administration told them their building leases were being canceled. They said they have no details on where employees will work. There are also multiple reports about the termination of the lease for the Jacksonville, Florida, district headquarters.
Affected in the Chicago District are the downtown headquarters and a building 30 miles south in Griffith, Indiana, spokesperson Jacob Zdrojewski said.
“Both of those locations, I’d say, are essential for district operation,” Zdrojewski said. “The office in Griffith is more operations-focused, but they provide a valuable service to the region. It makes it possible for the Corps to do their job.”
