The green light came months after Democratic Gov. Bob Ferguson chastised the president for denying the state’s past disaster aid requests.

Federal disaster workers flocked to Washington state over the weekend after President Donald Trump quickly approved emergency help for massive river flooding.

The approval of a seemingly routine request took on added significance because Washington Gov. Bob Ferguson (D) had assailed the Trump administration earlier this year when it denied a previous aid request. Trump also had famously hostile relations with Ferguson’s predecessor, former Gov. Jay Inslee (D).

At a news conference Friday by a levee south of Seattle, Ferguson acknowledged his previous criticism of Trump over disaster aid.
