On Friday night, the head of the White House regulatory review office got a welcome phone call from the president.
President Donald Trump had called Jeffrey Clark, his longtime ally and current leader of a powerful White House regulatory office, to inform Clark that he’d been granted a presidential pardon.
It was great news for Clark, who has been mired in legal drama for years over his role in questioning the results of the 2020 presidential election while serving in the Trump Justice Department. He’s remained loyal to the president and earlier this year joined the second Trump administration in a powerful position leading the White House Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs.
Trump included Clark in a long list of people granted pardons last week for their conduct attempting to overturn the 2020 election results. The pardons are viewed as largely symbolic, since they only impact federal charges, but Clark hailed the move as an appreciated show of support from his boss.
