President Donald Trump’s selection to be the Transportation Department’s second-in-command used his confirmation hearing to call for permitting reform and express support for funding freezes to Biden-era infrastructure programs.

Steven Bradbury, up for deputy secretary of Transportation, previously served as general counsel at DOT during Trump’s first term. An author of Project 2025, Bradbury would serve under Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy.

At his hearing Thursday, Bradbury faced heated questioning from Democratic members of the Senate Commerce, Science and Transportation committee.

Sen. Maria Cantwell (D-Wash.), the committee’s ranking member, slammed Bradbury for his office’s response to the Boeing 737 MAX crashes in 2018 and 2019, in which she alleged he was uncooperative with Congress.
