The Trump administration on Thursday unveiled a proposed rule to prevent federal funds from being spent on initiatives it considers to be “woke” or a part of diversity, equity and inclusion efforts.

The Office of Management and Budget’s proposed rule would revise the federal government’s guidance for schools and other organizations to receive federal funding. But the proposal specifically calls out DEI practices, especially those involving higher education and federally funded research.

The wide-ranging proposal marks the latest move by President Donald Trump to root out DEI. The president has argued that these programs are discriminatory and criticized the Biden administration’s DEI efforts, including safeguarding the rights of transgender students.
