Former President Donald Trump on Thursday pledged to install a new Cabinet official in his administration who would be tasked with cutting the cost of living.

The former president made the promise during a campaign rally in Albuquerque, New Mexico, as he assailed the costs of federal regulations and vowed to slash government rules if he’s reelected.

“On Day One, I will sign an executive order directing every federal agency to immediately remove every single burdensome regulation driving up the cost of goods,” Trump said.

The president does not have the power to wipe away federal regulations through an executive order, but he could direct federal agencies to reconsider existing rules or pause rules that haven’t been finalized.
