The White House’s senior science adviser invited lawmakers to keep scrutinizing one of the nation’s top research bodies after its climate change findings angered President Donald Trump.
Michael Kratsios, director of the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy, appeared before the House Science, Space and Technology Committee on Wednesday.
Lawmakers on both sides of the aisle asked him about the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine, whose recent report on how human-caused climate change can contribute to specific weather events has drawn the ire of the fossil fuel industry.
Trump has pushed back as well, crying “Climate Fraud” on social media. The president demanded his administration open an investigation into the National Academies.
