President Donald Trump’s pick to run the Federal Transit Administration is no stranger to public service: Marcus Molinaro launched his political career at age 18 as a town official in New York.
But more significant perhaps is the reaction among unions and transit groups to his selection. Though the Trump team in general has clashed with labor leaders and mass transportation advocates, Trump’s choice of Molinaro for FTA chief has drawn support — even applause — from these corners.
“He understands the challenges the FTA will face,” the Transport Workers Union of America wrote recently on the social media site X. “The TWU strongly supports Marc Molinaro’s nomination and urges his swift confirmation as FTA Administrator.”
If the Republican-led Senate confirms Molinaro to the job — and there is little reason to believe it won’t — the posting would mark another milestone in a career that has taken Molinaro from small-town politics to the halls of Congress.
